R has a goofy love-hate relationship with waves. Or as she lovingly refers to them, "the booms" (sometimes even "le booms"--where does she get this stuff?). She is both fascinated with and terrified of the booms. When we drive along the island, she screams "BOOOOOOMS" everytime we pass by a beach. Then we have a discussion about how the waves in Captiva are really quite small. "Tiny," she says, nodding and emphasizing the point to herself, "not big. Tiny booms." So you can see how they draw her in and also how she holds back from them:
"Oh, the booms. Tiny booms."
I'm going to need some assistance here

Come on in, the water's fine! What's taking you so long?
After a day in the sun, heading out to dinner. Note to self: maybe red isn't the best color to wear when you're dealing with a sunburn.
R and Papa lounging in a big chair.
Well, Blogger is requiring me to upload each picture individually, which is annoying & time consuming, so I will check in later to post a few more pics then....
Until then, we will probably be back at the beach, examining the (tiny) booms. I will also be attempting to dodge the meanest, nastiest mosquitoes ever, probably without much success. I mean, I consider myself to be pretty conditioned to the little buggers, being from Texas and all. These guys are a thousand times more aggressive than I am used to--they literally swarm you immediately upon stepping outside. And they don't just hit your legs and arms--the first morning, they swarmed MY NECK. Little vampires, going for the damn jugular. They're right out of The Lost Boys. And the bites HURT upon impact--a sharp, stinging pain. Which is part of the reason why I have not yet left the condo this morning (the other part being that R is still happily sleeping away--it's almost 10 a.m. here). So you see, you must have all sorts of courage on this trip--courage to face the (tiniest ever) booms, courage to deal with the (tiny) rabid blood suckers. Who knew?

Dear god, this vacation is a test of strengths! Between the tiniest, but threatening, booms, vampire skeeters and apparently scorching sun (although, really you all look fabulously tan-- not red!-- in the pics), you'll be lucky to make it home without serious injury!! Perhaps you need some major DEET. Or a ring of garlic around your neck. :)
I think I smell, er see, a business opportunity--garlic DEET--awesome!
I love the hat! Does this mean we can add hat purchases to our fun activities! With dress-up possibilities even.
