Memorable Memorial Day

This year, we went to Utah for memorial Day weekend. Wow, they really celebrate Memorial Day up there--in a very different way than we do, too. In Utah, the weekend is spent visiting all of your relatives and ancestors graves and placing flowers on them. And not just military men and women killed in combat (although those most definitely), but any and all family members. Families pack up their cars and head to the breathtakingly beautiful cemeteries for an afternoon picnic. Everyone hangs out and plays games. It's really something else. And we ran into relatives, both close and more distant, at both of the cemeteries we visited. The following pictures are from the Logan, Utah cemetery where my grandmother was recently buried.

Reese placed a rose on Granny's grave.

My aunts Kathy, Lissa and Becky and my mom brought pictures, jewelry, dolls, handiwork and other mementos to remember Granny.

Both of my kids visited their great-grandmother's spot. We hung out there, sang songs, and then strolled around the grounds. it was lovely, despite what it looks like with these pictures--the kids really had a nice time.

This is the only one of the two of them where Weston doesn't look completely terrified.

Papa and Weston explore.

Reese poses with me by Granny's grave. I'm holding a quilted block she made for me.

Such a beautiful spot.

Then, we also ventured to the The Bluebird for lunch.

Reese enjoyed a milkshake at their cool ice cream bar.

And Lissa ignited a new obsession for Reese: Cousin It and The Addams Family. Girl can't stop talking about the show!

That reminds of Dia de los Muertos! Very cool. Beautiful place.

And love Lissa's Cousin It. :)
